Taken in 1909, this incredible vintage photograph shows the Jewish Ghetto on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The view is from the corner of Rivington Street and Orchard Street, looking north. At the time, Orchard Street served the neighborhood's outdoor market so there are hundreds of vendors lining the streets as far as the eye can see. Miraculously showing almost all of the original buildings, here is a Google Street View of how this same vantage point looks today:
