This great vintage photograph shows the view looking west down 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan, captured sometime between 1903 and 1910. On the right you can see an entrance and facade of the old Grand Central Terminal, torn down shortly a few years after this photograph and replaced by the current building. Here is a Google StreetView from approximately the same vantage point as it appears today:
