Over 114 million vehicles travel over the George Washington Bridge each year, making it the busiest bridge in the City, the nation and even the world, but it wasn't always this busy. This vintage photograph from 1934 shows the bridge just 3 years after it opened in 1931.

A total of 6,148,876 vehicles crossed the bridge in 1934. Today over 114 million vehicles make the crossing.

The view is from a vantage point between 178th and 179th Streets, looking West toward the Hudson. Here is how the same entrance looks today.
