[VIDEO] This Lower East Side Restaurant Elevates Mexican Dishes With Insects

Black Ant is an East Village Mexican food restaurant that stands out amongst all other Mexican food restaurants in the area for one big reason: insects. In this video from Thrillist, watch as head chef Mario Hernandez explains why there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to ants, grasshoppers, and other insects in your meal.

Located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Chef Mario Hernandez of The Black Ant is seasoning his guacamole with black ants and coating his shrimp with grasshopper flour for tacos. Chef Hernandez grew up tasting these flavors as a child in Mexico after his grandmother introduced him to grasshopper tacos at a young age and is now sharing an elevated version of the food he fell in love with as a child.
