With the advent of micro apartments measuring as little as 90 square feet, it's easy to think that New York City has the smallest apartments in the nation. However, a recent Top 20 list compiled by real estate search website Rent Café didn't even include NYC.

Tuscon has the smallest apartments in the nation, followed by El Paso and Buffalo. Atlanta has the largest, followed by Plano and Jersey City, according to the study.

The site crunched the numbers on cramped spaces across the country using data from Yardi Matrix, an apartment market intelligence source that’s the site’s sister company.

While increased micro-units mean our apartments continue to get smaller, we can at least take comfort in that others have it worse.
