These are the 10 words recently researched by Jack Grieve, a professor of Forensic Linguistics at Aston University. Collecting and analyzing almost a billion geotagged tweets from across the United States from October 2013 to November 2014, the professor created heat maps of the usage of the words, showing which regions preferred the usage of each of them.

Here in the City, we prefer asshole, fuck and shit, arguably the best of the bunch. We avoid the homophobic slur faggot and the sexist words bitch and cunt, and don't waste our time with weak expletives like gosh, darn and damn. We should be proud of ourselves.
There is just one phrase in the classics column which New Yorkers perform relatively weak on, so please, step up your usage of the classic: motherfucker.
