Cross the New Goethals Bridge on Staten Island in This 48-Second Time Lapse Video

The first span of the new Goethals Bridge connecting Staten Island and New Jersey opened this weekend. The new bridge replaces the existing 89-year-old bridge which will soon be dismantled. In 2018, the second span of the bridge will be completed, and traffic will be split between them. In this time lapse video from the Staten Island Advance, take a drive across the bridge in just 48 seconds.

The new Goethals Bridge with wider lanes and shoulders is finally open for New York-bound traffic. The new Goethals Bridge span will have a total of four 11-foot lanes, two in each direction, plus narrow shoulders, a spokesman from the Port Authority said. The new span is approximately 10 feet wider than the old bridge.
