Vision Zero is an initiative by the City of New York to drastically reduce traffic related deaths and injuries to drivers, passengers and pedestrians. The latest attempt to reduce the numbers of pedestrian deaths is a large piece of plastic installed on large trucks and big-rigs. These side guards prevent people from getting caught under the truck, drastically reducing the chances of being run over by the tires in case of an incident. The also provide some sweet gas savings for the trucks by streamlining airflow around the vehicle. Win win.
