Back in the early 1980s, when the New York City subway was a dirty, grimy, and crime-ridden place, the red-beret wearing Guardian Angels would protect commuters by establish a presence on the subway that the police could not, or would not, give. This vintage photograph shows two of the Angels protecting a subway car around 1980.
