This interesting vintage photograph shows Longacre Square sometime in the 1870s, three decades prior to its renaming to "Times Square". Before the introduction of the subway station and New York Times building in 1904, the area was primarily used to house horse stables and business related to the horse and carriage industry. Thoroughly unrecognizable from what is there today, it's pretty tough to tell what road we are looking at here, but based on the width of the main street versus the side street, we are either looking at Broadway or 7th Avenue.
