[VIDEO] How is New York City Building a $4 Billion Invisible Flood Barrier?

After the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, New York City initiated the ambitious Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency Program. This $9 billion flood protection system, spearheaded by the New York City Department of Design and Construction, aims to safeguard Lower Manhattan from future storm surges. The video delves into the behind-the-scenes construction of major components like the East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) and Brooklyn Bridge-Montgomery Coastal Resiliency (BMCR) projects, showcasing hydraulic floodgates, elevated waterfront parks, deep foundations, and innovative storm drainage solutions. Once complete, the system will protect an estimated 150,000 residents, largely remaining invisible to the public on an ordinary day. Key contractors involved include Posillico, CAC Industries, SPC Construction, and DiFazio Industries.
