Fortune cookies are undoubtedly the best part of a meal at a Chinese restaurant, but the treats also carry with them a bit of mystique: Who writes the fortunes that grace the end of your meal with a little bit of wisdom? And could that possibly be their fulltime job? The Eater video team sat down with Donald Lau, Chief Fortune Writer at Wonton Food Inc. who has been at the job for over three decades, as well as his successor (Donald plans to retire at the end of this year), to learn about what it takes to write fortunes for a living.
