Cycling advocacy group Transportation Alternatives have setup a petition to turn 14th Street near Union Square into a car-free zone during the impending L Train shutdown. The changes would allow cyclists and other commuters free reign of the street between Irving Place and 6th Avenue.

While the repairs are unavoidable, there is much we can do to minimize the inconvenience for everyone. By dedicating 14th St to public transit, walking, and biking, we can maximize the usefulness of our limited street space and increase safety along this very busy corridor.

Check out the petition page for more info or to sign your name in support.
