Brooklyn based photographer and filmmaker JJ Sulin recently created this interesting short film about 3 men who independently raise hundreds of pigeons in New York City. Here the stories of why Joe Scott from Brooklyn, Tom Scotto from Staten Island, and Vincent Outerbridge from The Bronx all became interested in a career raising the birds.
Seem like an odd topic for a mini-doc? Sulin says he actively seeks out the oddity in life:
I find interest in the slightly awkward and off–beat moments, using those elements to connect with the subject in the most human way. It’s the same approach I take to portraits, still life or landscapes—looking for ways in which to humanize my subjects and my surroundings—or at least join them in a humorous moment.
