In this episode of the New York Public Library web series Library Stories, we get to take a peek behind the scenes at BookOps, the library's laser sorting facility in LIC.

Sal Magaddino is passionate about his job as the Deputy Director for Logistics of BookOps, which is charged with distributing over 35,000 materials a day to more than 150 locations throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island, and Brooklyn. With the help of an energetic team, he’s been able to completely transform the way the Library circulates materials and reduce delivery times dramatically.

Good afternoon! Wishing you a happy Sunday, July 14th, 2019 from all of us at Viewing NYC!

Here's what the weather looks like in the City right now.

New York City has had some pretty intense heat waves in recent years, and a common way for residents to beat the heat is to turn a neighborhood fire hydrant into a large sprinkler for the kids. You're not supposed to go out with a wrench and open one on your own though, so how do you legally get a fire hydrant turned on? Check out this short animated GIF from the NYC Mayor's Office to learn how to request your legal spray cap.
