In the latest installment of NY Daily News' EthNYC Eats series, Ukrainian immigrant and LIC local Alexandra Shytsman, along with her mother Lidiya Tabakova, share their family recipe for Buckwheat Porridge with Beef Cutlets and Creamy Mushroom Gravy.

“It’s a very casual dish that actually most Russian or Ukrainian people probably have every week,” Shytsman, 24, said from her kitchen in Long Island City. “Buckwheat, cutlets and mushrooms are staple items of Russian home cooking.
