Interactive Data Visualization Shows Where New Yorkers Prefer to Sit While Riding Each Subway Line

Our friends at DNAinfo recently asked their readers to participate in a survey which asked where they prefer to sit while riding the subway. After almost 7k responses, DNAinfo compiled the results into these revealing data visualizations showing heat maps of the responses on each subway line.

Our interactive asked readers to pick where they would choose to ride on empty, half-full, and completely full train cars. And in the first scenario — a completely empty train car — anywhere between 40-80 percent of readers chose to either sit or stand right next to the doors. You can see this pretty clearly in this picture of the 1 train.
