Gotham Greens, the Brooklyn Rooftop Farm Supplying Whole Foods and Other Local Grocers

Brooklyn-based Gotham Greens designs, builds and maintains rooftop farms and urban greenhouse facilities all across the City since getting off the ground in 2011.

One of their urban farms sits directly atop the Gowanus Whole Foods, and supplies the store directly with the freshest produce possible, traveling about 50ft from the farm to the shelf.

In this video from CNN Money, see how the urban farm came together and continues to operate a successful farm from a Brooklyn rooftop.

Most produce travels 1500 miles from farm to table. Gotham Greens grows, harvests and sells its crops all in one building.
