Dates Announced for the 2017 Car-Free "Citi Summer Streets" Days in Manhattan

Anybody who has tried riding a bike from Downtown through Midtown and up to Central Park would tell you that it is a frustrating experience. Taxis cut you off, delivery trucks and cop cars park in your bike lanes, and pedestrians jay-walk whilst looking down at their phones. This August however, things will be different. Well, for three Saturdays at least.

Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City's most valuable public space—our streets. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation. In 2016, nearly 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets.

At Summer Streets, cars will be banned completely on Lafayette St. and Park Ave., letting you bike, blade, jog or scoot all the way without having to worry about anything but the sun.

This year's Summer Streets dates are on Saturday August 5th, 12th and 19th between the hours of 7am and 1pm. Check the event page for more info.
