Check Out This Incredible Vintage "Dashcam" Footage Driving Through New York City in 1945

Dug up by Archive.org, this incredible vintage 35mm footage from 1945 shows a "Dashcam" style trip through Midtown Manhattan. The first half of the video is shot facing forward while driving around 42nd Street. The second half has the camera facing backwards, while driving down 5th Avenue starting from Central Park at 59th Street. At just under 5 minutes long, this vintage film offers a unique peek at New York City as it appeared seven decades ago.

An early "dashcam" style archive footage film showing a trip through downtown Manhattan, New York City along 8th Avenue, 5th Avenue, and 50th Street. The first half of the film uses a forward looking camera, the remainder of the film shows the views from a rear facing camera. The scenes capture many classic and vintage cars from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s including many Ford and General Motors vehicles that were so common during this period, as well as the iconic Taxi Cabs of NYC.
