Artist Eric Dyer on His "Copenhagen Cycles Journey" Midnight Moment in Times Square

Times Square's Midnight Moment is an art initiative by Times Square Arts in which all of the billboards in Times Square synchronize to show an audio/visual art piece at exactly 11:57pm everyday for 3 minutes.

This month, the featured Midnight Moment is Copenhagen Cycles Journey, by visual multimedia artist Eric Dyer. In this video, the artist explains a bit about the project.

Copenhagen Cycles Journey features moving images of Copenhagen that swirl across the screen and establish a dizzying pace as the viewer is led through a tour of the city in what feels like a pop-up book come to life. Dyer began the project during a Fulbright Fellowship, when he spent eight months exploring and videotaping Copenhagen from the seat of his bicycle. The artist selected sequential stills from the footage to construct several zoetrope-like cut-paper sculptures, capturing the rotation of the sculptures on high-definition video to create the final product.
