WNYC Checks Out a Vendy Award Winning Halal Cart in Jackson Heights

The Vendy Awards is an annual street food competition which gives out awards to the
best street food in New York City, and a few other lesser-than cities. Public nominations are made to determine who will compete against each other head-to-head at a judged event.

In this video WNYC checks out Sammy's Halal Cart, a Vendy award-winning street cart food vendor in Jackson Heights and downtown Manhattan.

Halal food vendors are more popular than ever in New York City, reaching a clientele that extends far beyond Muslim Americans who adhere to halal dietary restrictions. One need only walk outside at lunchtime in Manhattan to see lines of people waiting for halal, stretching down the block.
