Harlem's iconic Apollo Theater first opened to the public in 1914, and made a name for itself by hosing some of the musical greats over the past century. Artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown, Bill Cosby, Gladys Knight, Luther Vandross, D’Angelo, and Lauryn Hill all started at the Apollo.
