The town of Rossville was inhabited early by Raritan Indians, then came the Dutch settlers and freed slaves from the south. Mansions and castles dotted the landscape alongside strawberry crops and oyster businesses. The A.M.E. Zion Church, at 584 Bloomingdale Road, is known to have been an essential stop on the Underground Railroad.
