[WATCH] New York City Has Thousands Of Impractical Fallout Shelters

A PSA released by New York City’s Emergency Management in July of 2022 about what to do in a nuclear attack left many New Yorkers – and the internet – puzzled. Many posed the question of why this was released now while others said it left them with more questions than answers. While nuclear preparedness may be a newer topic for some Americans, decades prior it was a much more widespread conversation. In fact, one nationwide initiative was focusing on private and public shelter construction. In New York City alone, there were approximately 18,000 identified sites. So what happened to these fallout shelters and where should New Yorkers turn in case of an emergency?
