This vintage photograph from the 1950s shows a very crowded Coney Island beach and boardwalk, as seen from atop the Coney Island Parachute Jump ride. While the beach may not attract this many people any more, Coney Island is still a very popular summer destination for both tourists and locals. Here is a Google StreetView of approximately the same view (from ground level) as seen today.
