This great vintage photograph from around 1951 shows the Third Avenue El only a few years before its demolition in 1955. Alongside the tracks, you see a bunch of great vintage neon storefront signs for a cafe, a liquor store, and a bar/restaurant. Most likely, this shot was captured somewhere in the East Village, or Gramercy neighborhoods.
