Vintage Photograph of a Staten Island Beachgoer and Swimming Instructor Circa 1898

Staten Island's Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach is a 2.5-mile boardwalk and beach area that extends southeast from Fort Wadsworth to Miller Field’s Gateway Recreational Area.

As a Southern facing beach, the FDR Boardwalk and Beach faces the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the City's most spacious beachfront areas.

In this vintage photograph captured in 1898 by the Byron Company, we see a young female beachgoer and a swimming instructor laying on the sand, enjoying a conversation.

Contrary to popular belief, the man in this photograph is not Nikola Tesla.
