This great vintage photograph from 1941 shows commuters in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. Captured in early-morning, long shadows are formed from the streams of light pouring in through the east-facing windows. Here is the same view today, mostly looking the same except for the addition of the eastern staircase which was added in the 1990s:
