In this great vintage film from Alan Steinfeld, take a 45-minute tour through the* "fashionable East Villaaage"* with host Barbara Lehman as she explores Cooper Square, St. Marks Place, Tompkins Square Park, and more. The film was recently shown at the Museum of Modern Art as part of the Club 57 retrospective:

Filmmaker Alan Steinfeld captures the transition that was happening in the East Village in mid 1980s. On one bright summer day in June of 1985, he and performance artist Barbara Lehman walked through the heart of the East village down St. Marks place from Cooper Square to the Art festival in Tompkins Square park. On the way they ran into many of the colorful characters who had made this community a hot bed of creative activity. at the time.
