A popular tourist attraction in Central Park, the controversial horse carriages have been a hot topic in the City for the past several years. Unable to ban them completely despite his promise to do so on his first day in office, Mayor Bill de Blasio recently made some improvements to how the horses are treated, but they don't go far enough. Life can be incredibly tough for New York City carriage horses. The Central Park horses are shackled into their carriages. The horses go from navigating New York traffic to being kept in confined stables. Their treatment has raised ethical questions of animal abuse and cruelty.
