[VIDEO] Check Out This Slideshow Showing the Castles of Inwood's Long Lost Gilded Era

Cole Thompson runs a fantastic local blog titled My Inwood which is, you guessed it, all about Manhattan's Inwood Neighborhood. In this recent video titled Castles on the Hill: Inwood's Gilded Era, Thompson shares a collection of vintage photographs showing the impressive mansions which once existed in the neighborhood.

In the late 1800's and early 1900's magnificent homes were built in the Inwood section of Manhattan. Residents included industrialist CKG Billings, real estate tycoon Dr. Charles V. Paterno, and others. By the 1930s the last of these opulent homes were torn down an replaced with parks and apartment buildings.

The music featured in the video is the iconic folk song Malvina Reynolds — "Little Boxes"
