Uncovering the Toynbee Tiles of New York City

When you take “street art” at its literal interpretation, you get artwork that is part of the street itself. Toynbee Tiles are a form of political and societal statement art that is created by placing a tile on the asphalt, then having it embed into the street itself after the weight of thousands of cars passes over it.
