The New York Public Library was established in 1895 and quickly housed one of the largest collections in the world. It is currently the second largest collection in the United States, and the third largest in the world behind the Library of Congress and the British Library. The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, better known as the Main Branch of the library, took 14 years to complete and was opened to the public in 1911.
