This Brooklyn Artist Blows Molten Glass Into Surreal Organic Shapes

Through his Gowanus studio Brooklyn Glass, glass blower and sculpture artist Jeff Zimmerman creates unique and surreal organic shapes from molten glass by blowing air through them, pressing on them, gravity, and other means. In this video from New York Magazine, see how he does it, and learn about his upcoming gallery exhibition.

For more than two decades, iconic glass artist Jeff Zimmerman has been breathing new life into the ancient art of glassblowing with his surreal works of art. His glass sculptures—influenced heavily by the natural world—seem to drip, weave and ooze, even in cold glass form, bringing to mind “nature on an alien planet,” according to the artist himself.
