The 20 Most Common First and Last Names of New York City Taxi and Limousine Drivers

Data scientist Seth Kadish recently compiled New York City taxi and limousine medallion data from the City of New York's open data initiative in order to determine the most common first and last names amongst the 52,131 active drivers. The top 5 names are actually all alternative spelling variations of the same name, Mohammad, while the most popular last name was Singh. Interesting to note however is that there are no drivers with the combination of the most frequent first and last name, i.e. Mohammad Singh.

Singh is the most common last name, but none of the most common first names are paired with it; it is traditionally a last name in India, but due to the diversity of first names in India, none of them are in the top 20.
