[VIDEO] First Chinese Principal Dancer in NYC Ballet History Hopes to Inspire
Chun Wai Chan is the first Chinese principal dancer in New York City Ballet’s 74-year history. The 30-year-old who was born in China’s southern Guangdong province, says he still finds it “unbelievable” each time he hears his name announced as the US troupe’s top-ranked performer. Chan hopes his experience in one of the foremost dance companies in the world will inspire more Asians to pursue professional ballet careers. “Asian male dancers are definitely able to dance,” he said, “because I have been dancing forever.”
