SmokyMountains.com recently created this great interactive 2023 Fall Foliage Map using an algorithm that computed several million data points from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The 2023 Fall Foliage Map is the ultimate visual planning guide to the annual progressive changing of the leaves. While no tool can be 100% accurate, this tool is meant to help travelers better time their trips to have the best opportunity of catching peak color each year.

According to this data, New York City should see peak fall foliage in the days surrounding October 16th, 2021. Check out the full map to see how the fall foliage peak levels change throughout the nation with time.

Governors Island is a small island off the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City. The island has a long and varied history, dating back to the 1600s when it was first used as a Dutch colonial settlement. In the centuries that followed, the island changed hands numerous times, serving as a military base, a quarantine station, and even a dumping ground for trash. In 1996, the island was finally turned over to the people of New York City and has since been redeveloped into a beautiful public park.
