These Homeless Girl Scouts in New York City Find Home Amongst Each Other

In New York City, Girl Scout Troop 6000 is a very unique troop that is comprised of only homeless children living in the City's shelter system. Started by a former shelter resident Giselle Burgess, the troop provides the children with a stable group and community amongst the chaos of the shelters. Learn more in this touching video from Great Big Story.

They sell cookies, earn badges and, on their honor, try to help people at all times. But there’s something that makes their sisterhood even more special. Meet Girl Scout Troop 6000: the first of its kind for girls living in the New York City shelter system. Founder Giselle Burgess knows how important community and stability are for those facing homelessness … because she’s been there herself.

International Soccer Superstar David Villa's Love Letter to New York City

Spanish superstar and New York City FC striker David Villa is one of the best players to ever play the game. Living in New York City for the past 3 years, the player has fallen in love with it, and recently penned this love letter to his new home.

This City has levels
It’s up here, it’s down here and it’s everywhere in between

In the bad times and the good
From Day One, to this moment, and a dream of the future.

This City is for the legends.
And it’s for all those still to come.
It belongs to everyone.

It’s a hustle.
It’s a symphony.
It’s a party.
It’s a fight.

To those who were born here.
To those who were drawn here.
To those who left their mark.
To those who are, and to those who will.

It’s for the players, and the players.
Creating our history, 90 minutes at a time.
Building, always building.
Together.
One more time.
Here, For the City.
