Looking Down on New York City With Photographer and Urban Explorer "Flashing Lights"

Urban Explorer, photographer, and Instagrammer flashing.lights has been exploring the City for most of his life, always finding new vantage points to capture amazing photographs of the City from above.

Avid readers of Viewing NYC might recognize some of these photos as we have shared a couple in the past, but the popular Instagrammer uploaded a great collection of his favorite aerial shots and we had to share them with you.

For years I have looked up at the beautiful buildings of the city and I had a strong desire to see the views the buildings held. Over the past year I embarked on a mission to take pictures from some of the rarest, priciest, and stunning views of New York City. These photos were a result of countless hours of networking with building managers, tenants, residents, and anyone else who could help me see the unseen. All shots were taken legally.

Check out @flashing.lights for daily photos of incredible New York City aerial views and street life.

The 9/11 memorial is one of the most powerful monuments in the city. The two squares were the foundations of the twin towers and they are a must see in person.

Here is the recently completed One World Trade Center. In my opinion one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. The observation deck opened up last spring which provides stunning views of lower Manhattan.

Columbus circle is a mecca for culture in New York City. It lies at the intersection of central park, huge midtown office buildings, and Lincoln Center. It also makes for some great photographs.

This New York City Bike Crew Gains Instagram Fame with Crazy Street Tricks

In this recent video from NBC's great Left Field series, meet a Harlem-based bike crew that does crazy street tricks for instagram fame, sponsorships, for community, and for charity.

Meet the Cycle Squad Maniaccs: DBlocks, MoBlocks, Twisted700, and ArtBMX. They're a group of Harlem bike riders who pop wheelies and swerve inches away from incoming traffic. The squad is popular on Instagram and was even featured in an ASAP Ferg music video, although they can raise the ire of drivers and police with their gravity-defying stunts.

[VIDEO] This Brooklyn Company Turns Dead Trees in NYC Parks into Designer Furniture

RE-CO is a Brooklyn based company which reclaims dead and fallen trees from New York City streets and parks, then produces furniture and wood panels from them instead of sending them to the landfill.

After declaring one of the largest trees in NYC dead, The NYC Parks Department and RE-CO BKLYN milled lumber from the tree to make available back to the public and turn into furniture.

Check out RE-CO's website for more info on their NYC tree reclamation process.
