Fireworks are dangerous and are illegal in New York City. In June and July of 2020, 30 New Yorkers suffered serious burns or lost fingers from using illegal fireworks.
Fireworks in New York City lead to serious fires that destroy homes, like the photos shown here from the Bronx on June 23, and this video from Brooklyn on June 24, when fireworks that were ignited in a driveway entered an open window on the first floor of the home. The occupants - unaware that a fire had started - continued to set off fireworks, even entering the home at one point to retrieve more as the fire spread. The entire home was destroyed.
