Richmond Hill was a station on the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road which originally opened in 1869 with tracks at street grade. In 1923, the platforms were rebuilt to run on a viaduct. By the end of the 20th century, ridership along the Lower Montauk branch dropped and this station, along with a few others, closed permanently on March 16, 1998. Today, only freight trains seldom pass this station on their way to Long Island City, while the neighborhood is left with the J and Z lines that run adjacent to the abandoned platform as the main point of transportation. Hope you enjoyed the little tour of this forgotten station on a forgotten line.
