If all goes as planned, the Hudson River Park Trust and developers partnering with Clarkson University will begin transforming the currently bare Pier 26 into an estuarium in 2017. The planned estuarium is "a research and education center with a focus on river ecology" and is in the perfect position sitting atop the middle of the Hudson River.
