Heat Seek is a new startup that is aiming to help New Yorker's deal with landlords who violate their building's requirement to provide heat to it's residents. It works by providing low-cost sensors to tenants in the buildings, then phoning home to report on the temperatures in the building and automatically report very low temperatures to the authorities.

Our sensors automatically take temperature readings every hour and record them online. Tenants, advocates, and lawyers can log in to check the temperature at any time and set alerts if it drops below a certain level.

The use the data to provide some interesting tools to tenants and landlords. They even generate a NYC Cold Map to help visualize problematic areas.
