Mushroom Porn: Bizarre Gallery of New York City Fungi

Redditor and fungi enthusiast fungus_fairy recently uploaded an interesting gallery of various forms of fungi and mushrooms found growing throughout New York City. And in case you were wondering on whether or not they are edible, according to the photographer:

Five of the pictured fungi are commonly collected for the kitchen and one is poisonous.

  1. Edible but not worth eating
  2. Too woody to eat, but it is often ground up and steeped to make a popular tea (reishi)
  3. Likely edible--didn't stick around to figure out the species. These are a close relative of the grocery store variety of white button mushrooms.
  4. Inedible
  5. Delicious!
  6. Too tough--inedible
  7. Tea again
  8. Delicious--though not sure I'd want to eat these ones judging by location.
  9. Poisonous
  10. Edible
