Meet James Lu, Greenpoint's Eccentric 76-Year-Old Marathon Runner

James Lu started running in his late 50's and ran his first marathon at age 60. 16 years later, he still runs every day and is a regular participant in all New York Road Runner races, including the half and full marathons.

His eccentric style, determination and inspiration have all helped make him him a legend amongst the New York City running scene. He has even earned himself the moniker "Running Man."

[James] grew up in Tokyo and remembers the devastation of WWII, an experience that profoundly effected him. That experience has left him trying to make peace with everyone. That's why he's not challenging you, he's challenging himself.

In this video from Brooklyn multimedia journalist Jackie Snow, James Lu talks about what keep him going.
