Because every day another article comes out showing you how financially painful it is to pay rent in Brooklyn, here is an amazing map from the Brooklyn Historical Society that will make you daydream of a past life living in Brooklyn where $100 a month could get you a brownstone on Prospect Park West. To be fair, according to the 1940 U.S. Census the average income was $1,368, so yeah… rent was still too damn high.
