Interactive Map Lets You See What Businesses Existed on Your Block in 1857

A new interactive map created by Mauricio Giraldo, software engineer at the New York Public Library's Data Labs, allows you to see what businesses existed on your lower Manhattan or Brooklyn block between 1887 and 1889.

The map uses public data from the library’s extensive collection of vintage New York City maps a.k.a The Map Warper Project which has listed thousands of historical places in its records.
