Over the past few years, men and women dressed as monks have been accused of aggressive panhandling at The High Line, operating under the guise of promoting peace in order to scam tourists. To help combat this, new official signs have been posted to help inform visitors that they are not who they say they are.
From reddit user jdelphiki:
In the 3 times I've walked the High Line since these signs went up at entrances, I haven't seen any monks. I'd typically see at least half a dozen on any given walk, so I guess the signs are working. Glad the High Line folks finally did something about this.
Time will tell whether this measure will continue to be effective.
