Cities tend to be much warmer than their surrounding areas. Global warming is exacerbating this heat island effect. Painting roofs white helps cool buildings and lower energy demand. In New York City, installing these reflective rooftops supports the City's goal to reduce carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050.
